Prenatal and Postpartum Strength Training in Philadelphia
Pregnancy and postpartum recovery can change the way your body feels and moves, but they do not necessarily mean that strength training needs to disappear from your life.
At Control Lab in Philadelphia, we offer prenatal and postpartum fitness coaching designed to meet you where you are during every stage. Our prenatal and postpartum coaches have completed specialized certifications focused on how pregnancy and recovery affect movement, strength, and exercise. That training helps them modify workouts appropriately as your body and needs change.
Strength training during pregnancy
For many people with uncomplicated pregnancies who have been cleared by their healthcare provider, appropriately modified strength training can remain part of their fitness routine. Training may need to evolve as pregnancy progresses through changes to:
Exercise selection
Positioning
Range of motion
Loading and intensity
Core exercises
Overall training volume
The goal is not to prove how hard you can exercise while pregnant. It is to help you continue moving and building strength in a way that is appropriate for you.
Returning to exercise postpartum
There should not be a race to bounce back. Returning to strength training postpartum can look very different from person to person depending on delivery, recovery, medical guidance, previous training experience, sleep, schedule, and how your body feels.
Our coaches help you progress gradually instead of assuming you should simply return to the workouts you were doing before pregnancy. We want to honor the incredible work your body has done and help you rebuild strength and confidence at a pace that feels right for you.
